an average family
24th & 25th January
A coming-of-age story following the wonderous imagination of young Ella.
Berserk Theatre’s new interactive one-woman-show invites the audience into the otherwise locked doors of Ella’s family home. As a bystander, how much responsibility lies with you as injustice unfolds?
Like any other 9-year-old, Ella is hungry for friendship and fun. She adores her neighbour’s dog and spends hours playing Sims. As she gets older however, the real troubles in her childhood home aren’t so easily concealed anymore – she needs to get out. This story follows Ella from the age of 9 to 23 – and through the means of her cherished diary the audience are invited to her funniest, darkest and most vulnerable inner thoughts.
The interactive nature of the show may seem daunting to an audience member. But there is no pressure to get involved and you are fully able to enjoy the show as a passive member. However, if you do decide to take part, which is very fun for everyone, there will never be a moment where an audience member will not know what to do or say, and there is very clear framework set in place that has been developed through workshops to help make the experience easy and enjoyable for the audience – we are not out to get you!
